Top 10 Most Beautiful Passes in Jammu and Kashmir

Banihal Pass
It is across the Pir Panjal Range with maximum elevation at 2832 meters. It connects the Kashmir Valley to the Indian state Jammu & Kashmir to the outer Himalaya. The Banihal pass remains covered by heavy snow during most of the year. In 1956 Jawahar Tunnel was constructed under the pass. The road now passes through the tunnel and the Banihal Pass is no longer used for road transport.

Changla Pass
Changla Pass is a high mountain pass in Ladakh, claimed to be the second highest motorable road in the world. Chang La is approached from Leh via the Kharu & Sekti village. The climb is very steep and even experienced drivers need to drive attentively. The descent from Chang La towards Tangtse or Darbuk is again very steep.

Fotu La Pass
It is on the Srinagar-Leh highway of the Himalayan Zanskar Range. It stands tall at a height of 4,108 meters. This pass is referred to as the highest point on the highway, going beyond the well-known Zoji La. The drive gets you an amazing view of the snow-clad mountain ranges.

Khardung La Pass
It is a high mountain pass is situated in the Karakoram Range to the north of Leh. Khardung La (in Tibetan, La means pass) is situated at about 40 km from Leh. To get the feeling of “being on top of the world” people often visit this place in large numbers, all around the year.

Lungalacha La Pass
Lachulung La is a high mountain pass at an elevation of 5,059 meters, located in the Himalayas, on the boundary between Himachal Pradesh and Ladakh. The pass is open for only about four and a half months in a year in summer between May or June.
