AMARNATH CAVE TEMPLE
The Amarnath Cave Temple is situated at an altitude of 3,888 meters or around 12,750 feet and finds its way starting from Chandanwari and passing through Pahalgam. This shrine forms an important and integral part of Hinduism and is considered one of the holiest temples.
Surrounded by snowy mountains and the cave itself is covered with snow for the most of the year except July-August. Thousands of pilgrims register themselves several months ahead for this sacred event. They assemble in July beginning for acclimatization and gearing themselves for the further grind that lay ahead.
Once the “Darshan” starts, the pilgrims queue up and wait for their turn. Braving snow, rain, and extreme cold winds all of them have just one goal: seeing the ice stalagmite formed inside the cave and obtain his blessings.
